Emma Mabe

Hi! I am Emma Mabe, and I am a Communications Studies major at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. I chose to cover this specific topic of misrepresentation of gender in the media because of how prevalent it is today. Women are constantly on the put on the back burner when it comes to media influence, and there is such a low representation of the genders in movies and social media. Because of that fact, I think that focusing on the problems that come about from this misrepresentation is important to know and be aware of, just as it is equally important to know about the possible solutions that can lead to solving this issue in today’s media.

Allie Jones

Hello! My name is Allie Jones and I am also a Communication Studies major at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Misrepresentation and underrepresentation of women, minorities, and LGBTQ+ people is a pertinent issue in my life as a woman navigating social media everyday. It is important that attention is drawn to gender issues in order to help spark change. Although systematic change is a difficult task, change starts with informing people of a problem. Our goal is to bring awareness to underrepresentation in media, provide provide some solution ideas, and provide you with an example of a movie, news media, and advertisement that fairly represents people in the media. Enjoy!
